This is a summary of recent technology and site configuration changes that affect the English Wikipedia. Note that not all changes described here are necessarily live as of press time; the English Wikipedia is currently running version 1.44.0-wmf.12 (8b8c762), and changes to the software with a version number higher than that will not yet be active. Configuration changes and changes to interface messages, however, become active immediately.
Fixed bugs
Autoblocked users can again edit their own talk page (this was accidentally broken recently). (r41444, bug 15789)
Edits via the API now work if the page in question was deleted and undeleted since the edit sequence started. (r41649, bug 15647)
Imagemaps no longer force themselves onto a new line. (r41729, bug 14052)
Imagemaps now check for an impossible number of elements in a polygon's vertex list. (r41730, bug 15675)
Imagemaps in a situation where they would be scrollable now scroll correctly in IE7. (r41720, bug 9126)
Videos with the .ogv extension now thumbnail properly. (r41735, bug 15363)
If a non-admin tries to edit a page in the MediaWiki: namespace, the resulting error message no longer incorrectly states that they cannot edit pages at all. (r41737, bug 14246)
New features
When renaming an account, bureaucrats can now automatically recreate an account at the old name whilst performing the rename. (r41435, bug 15181) (reverted in r42756)
A new API query list=watchlistraw allows a user to determine which pages are on their watchlist. (r41647, bug 15768)
The API now understands that edit and move protections can have different expiries; note that this has led to some breaking changes in protection-related queries. (r41652, bug 15785)
Internationalisation has been continuing as normal; help is always appreciated! See mw:Localisation statistics for how complete the translations of languages you know are, and post any updates to bugzilla or use Betawiki.
The Arbitration Committee did not open or close any cases this week, leaving three currently open.
Evidence phase
Piotrus 2: A second case involving alleged edit warring and other misconduct by Piotrus and other editors. Piotrus denies the allegations against him, and has suggested that the case may be a deliberate attempt to drive him from the site.
Voting phase
SlimVirgin-Lar: A case brought by Thatcher, asking the committee to review the use of checkuser by Lar, in the light of comments by SlimVirgin (here, inter alia), alleging that he misused the tool. A finding of fact with the support of four arbitrators find that Lar's conduct "fell within the acceptable range of CheckUser discretion", and remedies reminding users to bring similar issues to appropriate dispute resolution processes rather than "public invective", and reminding CheckUser operators to abide strictly to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy, have the support of three arbitrators, with none opposing.
Sarah Palin protection wheel war: A case involving allegations of wheel-warring on the Sarah Palin article, over a dispute as to the merits of page protection being applied in respect of it. Remedies instructing the parties to follow the principles adopted in the case, admonishing Jossi and MZMcBride for their use of administrative tools in the dispute, and urging the community to continue discussions regarding the improvement of the biographies of living persons policy, have the support of six arbitrators. Remedies restricting Jossi and MZMcBride from unprotecting or reducing the edit-protection status of a biography of a living person for 90 days have the support of four arbitrators, with two abstaining. Remedies that would desysop the two, either temporarily or permanently, appear unlikely to pass at this time.
