This is a summary of recent technology and site configuration changes that affect the English Wikipedia. Note that not all changes described here are necessarily live as of press time; the English Wikipedia is currently running version 1.44.0-wmf.8 (f08e6b3), and changes to the software with a version number higher than that will not yet be active. Configuration changes and changes to interface messages, however, become active immediately.
Fixed bugs
- Autoblocked users can again edit their own talk page (this was accidentally broken recently). (r41444, bug 15789)
- Edits via the API now work if the page in question was deleted and undeleted since the edit sequence started. (r41649, bug 15647)
- Imagemaps no longer force themselves onto a new line. (r41729, bug 14052)
- Imagemaps now check for an impossible number of elements in a polygon's vertex list. (r41730, bug 15675)
- Imagemaps in a situation where they would be scrollable now scroll correctly in IE7. (r41720, bug 9126)
- Videos with the .ogv extension now thumbnail properly. (r41735, bug 15363)
- If a non-admin tries to edit a page in the MediaWiki: namespace, the resulting error message no longer incorrectly states that they cannot edit pages at all. (r41737, bug 14246)
New features
- When renaming an account, bureaucrats can now automatically recreate an account at the old name whilst performing the rename. (r41435, bug 15181) (reverted in r42756)
- A new API query list=watchlistraw allows a user to determine which pages are on their watchlist. (r41647, bug 15768)
- The API now understands that edit and move protections can have different expiries; note that this has led to some breaking changes in protection-related queries. (r41652, bug 15785)
- The options at the top of Special:Recentchanges have been reorganised to use less space. (r41723, bug 3327)
- Special:Recentchangeslinked can now be set to display only changes to transcluded pages and images (rather than also including linked pages). (r37927, bug 5872)
