This is a summary of recent technology and site configuration changes that affect the English Wikipedia. Note that not all changes described here are necessarily live as of press time; the English Wikipedia is currently running version 1.44.0-wmf.12 (8b8c762), and changes to the software with a version number higher than that will not yet be active. Configuration changes and changes to interface messages, however, become active immediately.

• Special:MergeAccount now again correctly lists local accounts with the same name as a global account that are not attached to it. (bug 14456http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14456, fixed directly in the database)
• Special:MergeAccount now correctly merges accounts based on password when one account was created recently and the other was created a long time ago. (r36150, bug 14481)
• Special:Undelete now correctly displays deleted pages whose wikitext starts with a list. (r36114, bug 12311)
• Special:Recentchanges now no longer has two identical RSS feeds. (r36212, bug 14500)
• API action=parse queries now use the correct settings for the parser in all circumstances. (r36232, bug 14471)
• MediaWiki:Delete-legend and similar system messages no longer double-escape {{FULLPAGENAME}} and similar magic words when the page name looks like a URL. (r36233, bug 14511)
• The Chick, MySkin and Simple skins no longer try to load nonexistent stylesheets on Internet Explorer. (r36252, bug 14520)
• Cancelling an upload in response to a warning no longer causes the 'ignore warnings' checkbox to become automatically checked. (r36318, bug 14551)

• MediaWiki:upload-maxfilesize is now wrapped in a <div> with a distinct class, so it can be affected by CSS. (r36187, bug 14479)
• Words containing apostrophes can now be accidentally linked to the word without an apostrophe by double-bracketing part of the word, e.g. [[link]]'s is now equivalent to [[link|link's]]. (Previously, this worked for letters but not for apostrophes.) (r36253, bug 468)

• Internationalisation has been continuing as normal; help is always appreciated! See mw:Localisation statistics for how complete the translations of languages you know are, and post any updates to bugzilla or use Betawiki.

• The Esperanto Wikipedia has reached 100,000 articles (the 20th Wikipedia to reach this milestone).
• The Czech Wikipedia has reached 100,000 articles (the 21st Wikipedia to reach this milestone).
• The Polish Wikipedia has reached 200,000 registered users.
• The Czech Wikipedia has reached 40,000 registered users.
• The Gan Wikipedia has reached 1,000 articles.

The Arbitration Committee closed one case last week, leaving three cases currently open.

• Footnoted quotes: A case involving the use of quotes in footnotes, and general concerns with the biographies of living persons policy. Remedies enacted encourage more enforcement of the BLP policy, and impose a one-year restriction restricting Alansohn from making any edits judged to be "uncivil, personal attacks, or assumptions of bad faith". The latter remedy allows his blocking, without warning, should he violate it.

• C68-FM-SV: A case involving disputes between Cla68, FeloniousMonk, SlimVirgin, JzG, and others.

• Giovanni33: A case involving the accusation of sockpuppetry by Giovanni33. Giovanni33 and Rafaelsfingers, who has been labeled as a sockpuppet of Giovanni33 by some, have denied the charges.

• Homeopathy: A dispute involving a number of editors over the Homeopathy article. Remedies with the support of five to seven arbitrators include banning DanaUllman for one year, the creation of a "Sourcing Adjudication Board" regarding the inappropriate use of citations, and emphasizing the Committee's ability to issue subsequent sanctions in the case, based on reports of "inappropriate conduct" as judged by the Sourcing Adjudication Board. Another remedy, with the support of five arbitrators, allows uninvolved administrators to impose sanctions on editors involved in Homeopathy-related articles, for various reasons.
