I wrote a poem about my love for Wikipedia
I wanted to read this poem at Wikipedia Day 2026. WikiNYC had a snow day and delayed the event.
First, they came for the politicians
And I did not speak out
Because I do not belong to a party
Then they came for disabled journalists
And I did not speak out
Because my disability is invisible
Then they came for the teachers
And I did not speak out
Because I was not smart enough
Then they came for the white women
And I did not speak out
Because newsrooms would notice
Then they came for Wikipedia
And I yelled out
Because Wikimedians are my people
Then they tried to come for me
And there was no one left to recruit
To come for my community
