Milestones, Openings, and Wikinews contest

In late March, the Karachay-Balkar Wikipedia opened its doors. At the same time, after being closed and having its database locked some time ago, the Tokipona Wikipedia was completely removed.

The Esperanto Wikipedia declared April to be the "Month of Wikipedia" ("Monato de Vikipedio"), featuring a community-supported contest with prizes to expand articles in the list of 1000 articles.

Wikinews will be holding a writing contest from 1 May to 22 May. All are invited to compete; winners will receive barnstars.

Furthermore, the Audio Wikinews project has been revived. Help is needed in recording two to five minute newscast summaries of each day's top stories on Wikinews. Those who are interested may post a message on the project talk page.

The following project milestones were reached in March and April:

• The Simple English Wiktionary has reached 13,000 entries.
• The Waray-Waray Wikipedia has reached 30,000 articles with Karoha.
• The Simple English Wikipedia has reached 60,000 articles.
• The Thai Wikipedia has reached 60,000 articles.
• The Estonian Wikipedia has reached 2,000,000 edits.
• The Macedonian Wikipedia has reached 40,000 articles.
• Wikimedia reached 1,000,000,000 edits.
• The Greek Wikipedia has reached 50,000 articles.
• The Ukrainian Wikipedia has reached 200,000 articles with Список країн за видобутком вугілля.
• The Catalan Wikibooks has reached 1,000 pages.
• The Anglo-Saxon Wikipedia has reached 2,000 articles.
• The Zamboanga Chavacano Wikipedia has reached 1,000 articles.
• The Aragonese Wikipedia has reached 20,000 articles.
• The Polish Wikisource has reached 15,000 text units.
• The Hebrew Wiktionary has reached 10,000 entries.
• The Lithuanian Wiktionary has reached 500,000 articles.
• The Gan Wikipedia has reached 5,000 articles.
• The Chinese Wikipedia has reached 300,000 articles with 2001年邁阿密大師賽.
• The Catalan Wikipedia overtakes the Finnish Wikipedia.
• The Ukrainian Wiktionary has reached 25,000 articles.
• The Icelandic Wiktionary has reached 17,000 entries.
• The Waray-Waray Wikipedia has reached 20,000 articles with Lugit.
• The Italian Wikiquote has reached 10,000 articles with Fazio degli Uberti‎.
• The Lombard Wikipedia has reached 10,000 articles.
• The French Wikiversity has reached 1,000 lessons.
• The Korean Wikipedia has reached 130,000 articles.
• The Welsh Wiktionary has reached 1000 entries.
